CONCERT FOR GEORGE: A TRIBUTE TO THE MUSIC OF GEORGE HARRISON
November 29 @ 8:00 pm
On November 29, 2002, on the 1st anniversary of former Beatle George Harrison’s passing, a celebratory and memorial one-off concert was held at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Organized by Harrison’s wife Olivia and son Dhani, with Eric Clapton and Electric Light Orchestra’s Jeff Lynne as musical directors, friends of George’s convened to play his music to a wildly appreciative audience. Rock legends Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Tom Petty, Procol Harum’s Gary Brooker and Billy Preston contributed, as well as appearances by Ravi Shankar and the cast of the British comedy troupe Monty Python’s Flying Circus, mates of George from the early days.
Call it a ‘tribute of a tribute’, but exactly 22 years later to the day, 15 of Chicago’s top musicians are recreating this show in its entirety, consisting of songs written by George during the Beatle years as well as his solo pursuits. With multimedia images of Harrison as a timeless backdrop during this stage show, it is truly a ‘Concert for George’ not to be missed!
