Performing songs of “The Band”, THE WEIGHT BAND is keeping the spirit and the music alive that helped define an era. Members of THE WEIGHT were either actual players in “The Band”, or are directly and deeply connected to their legacy. The group features Jim Weider from “The Band”, Brian Mitchell of the “Levon Helm Band”, Marty Grebb, original keyboardist for “The Buckinghams” and who wrote for “The Band” and worked with Rick Danko and Richard Manuel, Albert Rogers from the Jim Weider Band and frequent performer at The Barn’s Midnight Rambles. Michael Bram, the newest member of THE WEIGHT, played with Jason Mraz.

The Last Waltz was a concert film documentary by Martin Scorsese “The Band”, held on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1976, at Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco. The Last Waltz was advertised as “The Band’s” “farewell concert appearance”,[ and the concert saw “The Band” joined by more than a dozen special guests, including Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, Bob Dylan, Ronnie Wood, Muddy Waters, Neil Young, Neil Diamond, Van Morrison, Bobby Charles, Dr. John, Paul Butterfield, Emmylou Harris, Ronnie Hawkins, Joni Mitchell and, The Staple Singers.
The group was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1989 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. In 2004 Rolling Stone ranked them No. 50 on its list of the 100 greatest artists of all time, and in 2008 they received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2004, “The Weight” was ranked 41st on Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 greatest songs of all time.
